Alice Cooper @ the State Theater
Alice did the State theater December 5th, the costume changes were no Christmas story. As always Alice lost his head during the show. “Ballard of Dwight Fry” & “I Love the Dead” put everyone in the proper mood. The guillotine & gas stretcher are my favorites but he has a lot more going on stage, great rock & roll guitar playing.
Alice did have a close call doing the guillotine act in 1988 when a safety wire snapped. Back in college I thought “Welcome to my Nightmare” was a good album – who among you still has a vinyl copy of that masterpiece?
“School’s Out” was the encore with Vince Neil. Vincent Damon Furnier or Alice was finally inducted to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2010, he really invented theatrical rock where Marilyn Manson & KISS only copied it. Alice & the original members of his band all ran on the same track team in high school.
I was a sophomore in college, Alice was on break at a bar in Madison Wisconsin. I can’t remember the name of the place on State Street. I was sitting next to him at the bar and we had great conversation. I didn’t know he was the headliner that evening.
Alice is still good on the golf course & has played golf with Donald Trump. His nice little restaurant in Phoenix, AZ is called Cooperstown, the sports bar atmosphere has some great rock & roll memorabilia. Have any of you eaten there, I’d like to hear from you.
