Jimi Hendrix Tribute 2014 @ The State

happy-anniversary

A great evening to celebrate a wedding anniversary and see guitar players that usually do not hang out together.  This show at the State theater was not on the main tour schedule.  Some of the artists: Jonny Lang, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Chris Layton & Dweezil Zappa, Los Lobos’ favorites Cesar Rosas and David Hidalgo, left-handed blues rocker Eric Gales, Doyle Bramhall II and Eric Johnson, Bootsy Collins, Mato Nanji

[Indigenous].  The living legion Billy Cox, on bass.

Many of the classic Hendrix songs performed were predictable but every guitar player up there had their own stuff to show.

There were moments when I felt Jonny Lang & Kenny Wayne were battling for best lead performance of the evening & that was fine.  Both of these blues artists did nice renditions of Jimi’s lead solos.  Billy Cox (Jimi’s old bass player) played about half the evening.  Billy has that nice smile & keeps this music tribute going.  He is the last member standing from his old band the Experience.
